With aquatic, green and warm notes, the unisex fragrance “Atlântico” by 19-69 captures the atmosphere of the Atlantic coast – from the fresh sea breeze to the waves of Nazaré.
Once a privilege of Hawaiian royalty, surfing is now more than just surfing: It’s a lifestyle. Recently, professional big wave surfer Nic Von Rupp invited me to experience the ambience of his hometown Nazaré, a coastal town on the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal. With its beautiful, rugged rock formations, magnificent waves and salty sea breezes, it made a deep impression on me.

The fragrance journey of “Atlântico” opens with a refreshing citrus accord of bergamot and lemon, which is given a spicy sharpness by a pinch of pepper. A green, aquatic note unfolds in the heart: nettle and grass provide herbaceous freshness, accompanied by calone, passion fruit and melon, which capture the scent of a gentle sea breeze with sweet nuances. These are joined by notes of rose oxide and galbanum, which underline the floral, slightly resinous depth of the composition. The fragrance is rounded off by a warm, soft accord of ambroxan, musk and cashmeran, complemented by the balsamic, spicy nuances of styrax and incense.

Nazaré – The inspiration behind Atlântico
The Portuguese coastal town of Nazaré is one of the most spectacular surf spots in the world, known for its gigantic waves. Around 120 kilometers north of Lisbon, the rugged Atlantic coast dominates the landscape: jagged cliffs rise out of the sea, while foaming waves roll onto the sandy beach with a loud roar. The incessant surf and salty spray lend the scenery a wild, untamed beauty – and served as a source of inspiration for “Atlântico”.
The selection of notes is based on a conversation with Portuguese surfer Nic Von Rupp, who has first-hand knowledge of Nazaré’s atmosphere.
Like all the places you visit around the world in the course of your life, Nazaré has a characteristic scent that lingers in your memory. It is a rugged landscape with the rock formations, the mixture of air, wind and the wild sea where the Atlantic breaks. It is incredible.
