I, a millennial, sometimes don’t really understand Gen Z. I’m open to their ideas, of course, but even though I’m still a young 31 (!!!), there are some things the “youth” does that I simply don’t—and probably will never—understand. But, one thing I do align on with them is certain fashion trends, and it seems like so does Generation X. 

Brooke Shields, part of Gen X, wore the most Gen Z-coded outfit ever, and honestly, I want everything she’s wearing, too. The actress was snapped out in New York City, wearing a winter-perfect outfit that included all the essentials everyone can agree on: a warm coat, jeans, and sneakers. But, it’s the type of coat, jeans, and sneakers she wore that make it a very Gen Z ensemble.

Shields opted for a cropped, black, patent leather-esque puffer coat that’s always a good idea, whether it’s snowing or not. While I love my long wool wrap coat, it’s not the best idea come rain or snow, and Shields’s pick is both water-resistant and has the youthful, cool-girl edge that I know so many of us are after (just me?). She paired said cropper with a black hoodie and those trending, totally Gen Z-ish pants: baggy jeans that everyone from Rihanna to Katie Holmes has been wearing on repeat.

Shields finished off her outfit with the sneaker that easily won everyone—including supermodels— over in 2023 and 2024—and while some people say it’s out for 2025, I hard disagree. The actress styled her baggy jeans-and-puffer combo with the always-sold-out white $100 Sambas that are currently available. I wear mine all the time—and have a fresh pair on deck, too. They’re like classic white sneakers, but with a cool twist; the suede detailing and classic stripes certainly play up the cool factor, but the inherent simplicity of the silhouette ensures versatility. That, dear readers, makes it a forever sneaker.
