Versatile and protective, crochet styles have become a go-to look for many natural hair girls. From deep wavy side parts to vacation-ready boho braids, several styles can be achieved using the illusion crochet method.
“Crochet styles are low-maintenance protective styles that give your hair a rest and break from the rigamarole of daily styling,” says celebrity hairstylist Kim Kimble, who has crafted styles for entertainers like Beyoncé and worked on the set of the HBO hit series Euphoria. She explained that “Crochet styles last about a month to a month and a half, with oiling and using scalp serums being the best way to maintain your natural hair in between.”
This technique can be done in two different ways. The first is by braiding your hair into straight-back cornrows or a beehive and weaving the kinky, coily tresses in with a latch-hook crochet needle. The second is by parting your hair into small boxes, braiding each section, and looping in pre-braid strands. Ahead, we've collected 25 stunning ways to rock the crochet style.
