She's just like us.

Many people will tell you, hair maintenance is an involved, time-consuming process. Whether you’re due for your next keratin treatment, root smudge, or just a regular trim, getting to the salon routinely every few months can feel like a lot. As such, many will turn to DIY remedies to tame their manes, including royal family members. In a surprise reveal, Meghan Markle just admitted she has dabbled with boxed hair color.

The Duchess of Sussex attended the launch party for her dear friend and hair colorist Kadi Lee’s new brand, Highbrow Hippie Haircare and Wellness. Meghan graced Gjelina restaurant in Venice, California, to show her support for the female-founded beauty line, for which she serves as an investor. Lee co-runs her business with Myka Harris. This new line was founded to curb the root causes of hair loss and promote healthy hair aging.

After Lee gushed over Meghan and how she has impacted the growth of Highbrow Hippie, the royal quipped, "I was using boxed dye when I met her," a surprising tidbit that garnered laughs from the crowd. Albeit, Meghan explained she turned to the drugstore product during the COVID-19 pandemic when people had to quarantine.

Meghan and Lee's friendship dates back a few years. Celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant, who styled Meghan's hair during her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, told the duchess she only needed to know one person in California: Lee. Meghan and Lee quickly became pals, with the Suits alum entrusting Lee with her locks for the past four and a half years.

As expected, Meghan's chestnut-brown locks looked gorgeous and shiny for the occasion. She styled her healthy hair in bouncy curls with a middle part and glammed up with minimal, dewy makeup. She also opted for her tried-and-true outfit formula, a chic all-black ensemble, composed of a strapless corset top, wide-legged trousers, and strappy heels. The American Riviera Orchard founder accessorized with a simple silver chain necklace, small stud earrings, her wedding ring, and white and pink roses from the garden of her Montecito home, which she gifted Lee.

Meghan’s spirit was as radiant as her look, as a source told People, “She was in a joyful mood. She was dancing and celebrating with her friends.”
