This is revenge dressing at its finest.
Just over two weeks ago, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce. Today, in a move that would give just about anyone a case of whiplash, she hit the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival in a dress that was cut all the way down on both sides and held together with huge, plush black bows. Put it in the history books: revenge dressing never looked this good. Lopez was in the Canadian city to celebrate the premiere of her newest film, Unstoppable, which has a connection to her ex-husband, Ben Affleck.
Lopez stars in the movie and Affleck, who skipped the red carpet and was seen in Los Angeles today, according to People, has a producer credit on the project. Hitting the carpet solo, Lopez’s Tamara Ralph gown was covered in silver paillettes on a column-style silhouette. The boat-neck cut and long length may have looked demure, but the dress was open on both sides, with black bows at her waist and shoulders holding together the mirrored, metallic material. Lopez finished the look with her signature caramel hair blown straight, added sky-high platforms, and carried a box clutch in a matching mirrored finish.
Director William Goldenberg was quick to quell any rumors of tension between Affleck and Lopez, saying in an interview published before the red carpet that everything is professional and that nobody is bringing any additional drama to the situation.
“Everybody’s a professional, and that’s their own personal thing,” he told Variety. “I love them both. I mean, I know Ben better, but Jennifer was literally a dream to work with. She was incredible. And their personal life is their personal life.”
While Affleck was nowhere to be found, his pal Matt Damon was present, as the film was produced by their company Artists Equity. Previously, Affleck spoke about the project and how he loved working with his then-wife.
“What fun, what a joy to do something with her, see her be great, go to work with your wife, go to work with your best friend,” Affleck told CBS Sunday Mornings in March 2023. “If you don’t like who you’re working with, and if you have difficulty or trouble at work, I think it’s one of the things that can really cause depression, anxiety, and pain for people. And conversely, [if] you love the people at work, you probably have a pretty good life, you know?”
