Get the look with Levi’s jeans and a denim Reformation dress.
Before I walk over to my closet in the morning to pick my outfit, I consult my Pinterest app. I’ve been pinning my dream home, wardrobe, and lifestyle for over 15 years, and TBH, I don’t make any serious decisions without consulting it first. That includes what I wear on a day-to-day basis—so I’m all ears when it comes to fashion trends the Pinterest community is opting into this fall.
There’s one trend prediction I’ve adopted into my daily outfit curation without even realizing it: experimental layering. I find I’m mixing and layering textures, prints, and oversized silhouettes, which aligns with the ‘eclectic grandpa,’ trend, a.k.a. Pinterest’s 2024 fashion prediction for the season. That said, I rounded up six of my most layered fall pieces below.
6 Editor-Loved Fall Fashion Layering Pieces:
- Levi’s Ribcage Straight Jeans, $67 (Originally $80); amazon.com Zaful Cropped Turtleneck Sweater, $36 with coupon (Originally $40); amazon.com Afrm Zadie Print Turtleneck Mesh Top, $29 (Originally $38); nordstrom.com Fairy Season Striped Button-Down Shirt, $20; amazon.com Automet Oversized Faux Leather Bomber Jacket, $37 with coupon (Originally $47); amazon.com Reformation Citron Denim Mini Dress, $198; reformation.com
Levi's Ribcage Straight Jeans
Orig. $80 $67 at Amazon
Layering can seem intimidating if you think you need super unique pieces to create a dynamic look, but most outfits start with a simple base layer to build off. I start many of my looks off with Levi’s Ribcage Straight Jeans, which, IMO, are wardrobe essential. They’re comfortable, versatile, and come in four classic washes that go with everything. The fit sits close to the body through to the mid-thigh, then opens to an ankle-length hem.
Zaful Cropped Turtleneck Sweater
Orig. $40 $36 at Amazon
One of my favorite layerables is this Zaful Cropped Turtleneck Sweater. I love styling it over dresses or under jackets, so the turtleneck peacocks out. It comes in over 20 colors, including yellow, red, blue, white, and brown, and sizes range from S to XL. The sweater yarn is super soft and warm, and it has a boxy cropped fit, foldover collar, ballooned sleeves, and dropped shoulders.
Reformation Citron Denim Mini Dress
$198 at Reformation
You may think a short dress like Reformation’s Citron Denim Dress is only wearable during the summer months, but when layered right, it can be worn all year round. I style the denim dress with Zaful’s Cropped Turtleneck Sweater overtop so it looks like a denim skirt or with a more fitted style like Afrm’s Zadie Print Mesh Top underneath to warm it up. It comes in a dark wash, and sizes range from 0 to 14. There’s a back zipper for easy on and off, two front pockets and the length stops higher up on the midthigh, so I wear tights for extra coverage.
Afrm Zadie Print Turtleneck Mesh Top
Orig. $38 $29 at Nordstrom
The number of Afrm Zadie Print Turtleneck Mesh Tops I own is embarrassing but it’s a great layerable. It adds an element of visual interest to any look instead of wearing a solid-colored turtleneck (which also does the trick)—plus, I get the added coverage. The lightweight stretchy top features a turtleneck and long sleeves with thumb holes.
Fairy Season Striped Button-Down Shirt
$20 at Amazon
If you are looking for a low-effort way to mix and match prints, I use my Fairy Season Striped Button-Down Shirt as my base layer and pair it with another fun printed jacket or sweater. It’s lightweight and versatile and can even be worn under sweatshirts for a more preppy look. It has seven stripe options, including pink, green, blue, and yellow, plus sizes S through XXL.
Automet Oversized Faux Leather Bomber Jacket
Orig. $47 $37 at Amazon
Every immaculately layered outfit needs a cool girl outerwear; for me, it’s Automet’s Oversized Leather Bomber Jacket. The faux leather feels high-quality and comes in 11 colors, including black, brown, green, red, and even dark pink. It has a zipper front closure, two front pockets, and an oversized fit that can be layered over the chunkiest sweaters.
