The search for a quick and easy fall hair refresh is over: Sarah Michelle Gellar just showed off a new trim—and her curtain bangs may be the perfect way to tiptoe into a full fringe without committing to a straight-across blunt bang. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star shared a close-up look of her new hairstyle on Instagram today, giving followers a glimpse of the new style.
"She bangs," Gellar appropriately captioned the post, which earned comments from fans that compared the new chop with a notoriously divisive take on bangs from Buffy's third season. Gellar was very much in on the joke, sharing a side-by-side comparison of her new look and the throwback fringe on her Stories.
While her heavy curtain bangs may be new, Gellar's signature warm blonde was still present and accounted for. The rest of her hair stayed long, reaching past her collarbones, and she styled her new set of bangs with loose waves.
While Gellar is preparing to return to the small screen in Showtime’s new reboot of Dexter, Dexter: Original Sin, in December, she won’t be back to one of her most memorable roles. Speaking to People, she confirmed that she won’t be back for the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.
“I am dead,” Gellar said of her character, Helen Shivers, who did, in fact, die in the 1997 horror film. However, Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., will be reprising his role of Ray Bronson. Deadline reports that Jennifer Love Hewitt is still in negotiations to come back as Julie James. Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King are joining the film, as well.
"My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity," Gellar said. "So, I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title."
The movie is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.
