It reminds me of a throwback style.
Sometimes, an A-lister becomes synonymous with something because they’re seen in it all the time—like all the time. Katie Holmes wears her divisive fisherman sandals like it’s nobody’s business; Jennifer Aniston is in her iconic flip-flops more often than not; and Queen Letizia of Spain wears her raffia espadrilles so often, I pretty much immediately associate the summer shoe with the royal. But, on a recent vacation, she switched it up and opted for a slightly more sensible footwear that deserves a spot in your closet, too. So, make room!
Queen Letizia was photographed vacationing with her family on their usual Mallorca getaway looking as stylish and of-the-moment as ever. Not to mention, it was the perfect late-summer look that you’ll definitely want to pack for your last-minute vacation (I certainly will!). She wore a two-piece pink-and-red tie-dye linen set that consisted of a peplum-style top and billowy, slightly sheer maxi skirt; it was the definition of easy, breezy. While I haven’t been able to identify the label just yet, I’m now on the hunt for a similarly printed two-piece because, wow.
But that’s not even the winning part of the look—her accessories stole the show. She opted for a gorgeous crochet bag, layered jewelry, sunglasses, and last but certainly not least, ultra-strappy, low-to-the-ground sandals that were the complete opposite of her signature espadrilles. But, they’re smart, easy to wear, and even easier to walk in—a must for trekking around on a family vacation (or, you know, pretending you’re in Italy while drinking an Aperol spritz on a NYC rooftop).

The queen’s sandals featured a sensible sole and so many straps. In fact, they looked a lot like those divisive gladiator sandals I used to wear all the time in the early aughts. So, maybe they’re due for a comeback? Regardless, strappy footwear like hers is a smart, comfy option since it’ll stay securely on your feet, step after step. Just be careful of tan lines!
That said, while summer is nearing its end (crying face), there’s still plenty of time to wear strappy sandals, and honestly, there’s no better time than now to stock up with so many retailers slashing their prices on warm-weather styles. So, shop strappy sandals inspired by the queen’s look below—I’m eyeing those Steve Maddens.
