My mom is someone who is religious about her routine. She gets up in the morning, makes her morning tea, and catches up on all her favorite beauty and fashion sites, (InStyle included). Afterward, she gets dressed and puts on one of her three uniforms: her go-to T-shirt dress, linen pants and a T-shirt, or jeans and a short-sleeve button-up shirt. Lately, she’s been reaching more for the latter, consisting of her favorite Levi’s jeans and Dokotoo’s Button-Down Shirt on Amazon. It features a classic button-up front for easy on and off, batwing short-sleeves, small slits at the side seam, and a traditional collar. It’s made from 100 percent cotton with a crinkled texture, has an easy fit that hangs away from the body, and falls at about hip length.

I asked my mom why she decided to make the Dokotoo Button-Down her spring and summer go-to and she said, “The fabric is super soft, breathable, and lightweight,” and she “can style it in a variety of ways.” She also mentioned that she’d been searching for a textured button-down shirt instead of a crisp cotton poplin to switch things up this summer.
My mom owns it in white and pink and says it’s not super sheer, so you don’t need to add a layer under it. She loves how spacious the batwing sleeve is because she doesn’t like when traditional sleeves rub under her armpit. It feels “high quality” and it maintained its shape and size after going through the washing machine. However, she recommends air-drying it instead of putting it in the dryer.
As previously mentioned, my mom currently styles the button-up shirt with a pair of Levi’s jeans, white sneakers, and a cardigan draped over the shoulders since the weather is still in flux. But as it starts to warm up, she plans on styling it with linen pants or shorts, open over a tank top, and with her favorite Tory Burch sandals. She also wants to use it as a cover-up over her swimsuits while we’re on a cruise this summer.
