A style icon in the making.
Malia Obama may be a budding filmmaker, but to us, she looked like a bona fide movie star during a rare red carpet appearance at the 50th annual Deauville American Film Festival over the weekend.
On Friday, the eldest daughter of former U.S. president Barack Obama presented her short film and directorial debut, The Heart, at the festival in France while also offering a bit of insight into her style with a mismatched plaid outfit from Vivienne Westwood's fall 2024 collection. For the occasion, Obama wore a red-and-gray corset top with an off-the-shoulder sweetheart neckline and draped sleeves, which she paired with a coordinating layered skirt in a blue-and-white tartan pattern.
She accessorized minimally with burgundy knee-high boots and styled her brunette hair in tiny braids with curly ends. Makeup-wise, she highlighted her glowing complexion with a glossy nude lip and a swirl of coral blush to her cheeks.
When asked about her look on the red carpet by reporters, Obama replied: “Vivienne Westwood, Queen,” adding: “I don’t know as much about fashion, but I’m happy to be wearing it.”
Last year, the former first daughter originally screened The Heart at Sundance, where she showed off her more casual side in a long gray wool coat layered over a pale blue button-up and skinny jeans. A Y2K-coded gray knit skinny scarf and knee-high boots completed her laid-back winter look.
