It’s finally springtime, and with the blooming of flowers comes my seasonal skin sensitivity, which causes unbearable itchiness and makes my skin break out in little bumps all over. My dermatologist says it’s the equivalent of seasonal allergies, but instead of sneezing and watery eyes, my skin is inflamed and covered in spots. For the majority of the year, I’m able to use my usual body lotions, but at the start of spring, the heavy fragrance and heavy formulas further irritate this problem. So when these transitional flare-ups occur, I opt for a fragrance-free formula from a brand Jennifer Aniston has been an ambassador for and using since she was a teenager — specifically, Aveeno’s new Calm + Restore Gel Moisturizer.
The fragrance-free lotion is packed with aloe and prebiotic oats known to lock in moisture for up to 48 hours, while soothing and nourishing inflamed skin. The formula is lightweight and has a gel-like consistency that provides the same deep moisturization as the brands other coveted products. It absorbs quickly and is great for those with dry, delicate, and sensitive skin.

Like clockwork, over the last two weeks, the spots have started to appear and the dry rough patches are covering my knees and elbows, so I have had to do a complete overhaul of my body care routine. I’ve switched to an unscented body wash, and have been going over the top with Aveeno’s Gel Moisturizer. I apply it right after a shower, and it’s super lightweight, effortlessly melts into my skin, and doesn’t leave a residue that could transfer onto my clothes or sheets.
It deeply hydrates even my most stubborn dry patches and stays that way for hours, so much so I find I’m washing it off in my next shower. My textured and bumpy skin feels baby-soft, smooth, and less inflamed thanks to the cooling feel of the gel. It also leaves it looking radiant without feeling greasy.
There’s virtually no smell, so it’s great for those who are sensitive to fragrance like my sister, who’s struggled with eczema her whole life and has found around this time of year she’s also experiencing pretty bad flare-ups. But the aloe in this lotion was cooling on her hot and inflamed skin and reduced her itching tremendously. Her skin also stays chafe-free for up to 24 hours without the need for reapplication.
I’ll be stocking up on Aveeno’s Calm and Restore Gel Moisturizer and the brand’s other classic lotions. below.
