With “Tulaytulah – obscur”, the French perfume house Majda Bekkali continues the story of “Tulaytulah”, inspired by the cultural and historical heritage of the Spanish city of Toledo.
The sound of the Angelus is answered by the singing of the Adhan, and at this signal the sky over Toledo shines in the last light of day. The waters of the Tagus still tremble at this hour, like the skin of a lover feeling the tenderness of her beloved. On the bank, a blue-gloved hand dips a corne de gazelle into a wild cherry liqueur. And to contemplate its grace, time stands still for a moment. For the love of fragrance
The Spanish city of Toledo has been a symbol of cultural exchange and harmonious coexistence for centuries. The name “Tulaytulah” – the Arabic and Hebrew name of the city – is reminiscent of the time of al-Andalus, when Toledo was a vibrant center for trade, art and science. Muslims, Christians and Jews lived together peacefully here and created an incomparable cultural diversity.
Inspired by this heritage, Majda Bekkali presented the fragrance “Tulaytulah” in 2016. With its blend of cherry blossom, almond, cypress, leather and vanilla, it is intended to reflect the spirit of the city – a fragrant homage to peace, diversity and cultural unity.
With “Tulaytulah – obscur”, the label is now adding another chapter to this olfactory narrative. The creation was developed in collaboration with perfumer Camille Chemardin and is the result of four years of intensive creative work.
“Tulaytulah – obscur” opens with the delicate freshness of cherry blossom, which combines with the warm, spicy aromas of cumin and cinnamon. Floral-fruity accords of davana and blackcurrant unfold in the center, accompanied by the powdery elegance of heliotrope. These are joined by resinous tones of labdanum absolute and the slight bitterness of almonds, which lend the fragrance additional depth. The fragrance concludes with a sensual, creamy base note of sweet benzoin and vanilla, complemented by warm notes of precious woods and a velvety leather note.
About Majda Bekkali
Majda Bekkali was born in Fes, Morocco, into a noble family steeped in tradition, which introduced her to a world of arts and fragrances from an early age. Surrounded by the vivid tales of her ancestors – of conquerors, mystical healers, the founding of sacred cities and the legendary Amazigh princesses – she discovered her passion for storytelling.
At the age of 18, she moved to Paris to study art history. After graduating, she took over the creative direction of perfumes for several well-known brands. Finally, in 2009, she fulfilled her dream: she founded her own perfume house, driven by her passion for fragrances and stories.
The new fragrance can be pre-ordered in bottles of 10 ml and 50 ml.
