Being selected as a bridesmaid is an honor. Not only have you been chosen to stand with and support your friend on their big day, you’ve also been entrusted to support their chosen aesthetic — and let’s be real, visuals are an overarching aspect of any wedding. From dress selection to bridesmaid makeup, pulling off a look that feels like you while fitting well within the larger picture is the ultimate goal.
“Bridesmaid beauty should strike a balance between enhancing individual features and complementing the bride’s look,” says makeup artist Ann Benjamas Liendo. “It’s important to create a cohesive bridesmaid look, often via similar color palettes or styles, while ensuring makeup isn’t overpowering.” Tanya Bures, lead makeup artist and owner of Page Beauty, agrees. “Whether the bride’s makeup style is bold or understated, wearing a look that serves the bride’s style will allow for cohesive, balanced beauty for everyone.”
Though certain no-nos may seem intuitive, they bear repeating for an occasion this big. Experts urge bridesmaids to avoid faux pas, like selecting makeup looks that distract from the bride, going against any specific asks (ex., no dark lips), and requesting the exact same makeup as the bride. “While it’s essential for bridesmaids to feel and look their best, always remember that the bride is the star of the day,” says Liendo. “Embrace a look that celebrates the bride’s vision while showcasing your natural beauty.”
Scroll on for 30 beauty looks selected to inspire memorable bridesmaid makeup that fit the occasion.
Delicate Definition
Daisy Edgar Jones’s brand of beauty doubles as quintessential inspiration for a modern, wedding-ready look. “Bridesmaids are leaning towards fresh, dewy skin with softly defined eyes and lips,” says Liendo. "This aesthetic photographs beautifully and ensures they look radiant and polished throughout the event."
Warm Wash
Warmed-up radiance is always romantic, as demonstrated by Laura Harrier’s glossed lips and strawberry blush swirled over luminous skin.
Soft Glow
“I’ve seen a significant trend towards natural glam and glowy looks,” says Liendo. Consider Adut Akech’s incandescent glow and feathered lashes an aspirational example.
Barely-There Makeup
Barely there is a worthy approach for bridesmaid makeup. Madelyn Cline is proof positive that a standout makeup moment can come down to flawless skin, balmed lips, and brushed bros and lashes.
Pinkish Nudes
A palette of pinks oozes soft romance, and Margot Robbie’s nudeish iteration is subtle, lovely, and grounded by matte skin.
Old Hollywood
When selected with care (and consideration), details pulled from Old Hollywood sirens have their place in a wedding party. Shimmering, slightly smoked lids and perfectly lined lips combine for a classic sort of glam.
Sunburn Blush
This TikTok trend can actually translate to the wedding party world, particularly if the ceremony is scheduled for summer. A flush of color dusted over cheeks and across the bridge of the nose turns an otherwise pared-down beauty moment into something quietly romantic.
Balanced Bold
Bridesmaid beauty doesn’t have to be all petal pinks and pastels, but even going bolder should skew soft. Filled and brushed brows, berry-stained lips, and a flush of cheek color combine in a supremely sweet look.
Crimson Lip
To be clear, this option only works with the bride’s wholehearted say-so. But should the bride give you the go-ahead, keep the color neat and classic.
Peachy Glow
“Eyeshadow and a bright blush are on the rise,” says Bures. In this case, a monochromatic palette of peaches makes the pop of blush a natural, not-at-all distracting choice.
Slightly Surreal
Should the wedding be an artsy one, a tiny touch or two—like creatively placed individual lashes—can transform a simple look into a surreal one.
Little Wing
Sydney Sweeney proves that a wing of liquid liner can be understated, particularly if that wing is teeny tiny and paired with a swipe of sophisticated pink lipstick.
Soft Cat Eye
Olivia Rodrigo’s signature cat-eye liner makes for a popular and enduring bridesmaid staple. “We’re asked most frequently for a soft winged eyeliner created with a pencil,” says Bures.
Romantic Glam
Full glam is welcome so long as the application is expert. Zendaya’s bold brows, ample lashes, and coordinated lip and cheek feel easy rather than overwrought.
Pink Shimmer
Pink is an obvious yes for lips and cheeks, but the saccharine hue is a worthy choice for lids as well. A wash of pink shimmering shadow pressed over lids and blended out in a sugary diffusion feels like the right choice for a springtime ceremony.
Radiant Touches
Most makeup looks are better with a bit of shine. In this case, gloss pulled over lids and lips catches the light in a sophisticated and somewhat unexpected way, offering a brightening alternative to shimmer and glitter.
Frosted Finish
Frosty finishes are a fun and ethereal choice. Near-metallic lids and lips feel almost fantastical, yet romantic enough for wedding wear.
Warming Notes
A glowy complexion supplemented by warming touches—like these pulls of peach liner and a berried lip on Lupita Nyong'o, for example—is a prime choice for a summer or autumnal ceremony.
Apricot Everything
Saoirse Ronan’s all-apricot look is a unique take on monochrome makeup. A gilded iteration of the hue edged under the lower lash line, swirls over cheeks, and glossed lips prove the flattering and warming nature of the shade.
Puppy Liner
Exchanging the cat eye for puppy liner like Emma Stone's widens and rounds the eye, providing an idyllic touch for a day full of photographs.
Matte Finish
Jennifer Lawrence’s all-matte makeup doesn’t feel like an ode to the 2010s. Rather, the look feels dreamy, like something out of a reimagined Regency era.
Easy Luxe
“Another trending request that we love is a warm, face-framing contour created with bronzer rather than a muted contour powder under the cheekbone,” says Bures about this look from Camila Mendes. Finish with defined brows, lips, and lashes for a sharply luxe look.
Classic Drama
As demonstrated by Emma Roberts, washes of luminous metallic at the inner corners of each eye adds just the right amount of drama.
Pastel Liner
Another option that is down to the bride's discretion, Yara Shahidi’s peach wings are cheeky, cute, and somehow refined. For a personalized approach, try wearing the pink or nude that defines your makeup look.
Radiant Romance
On Rosalía, brushed-up brows and overlined lips are tempered by a luminous complexion and dusting of blush.
Glazed Girl
Hailey Bieber is about all things glazed and glowy, a combination that works well for anyone on bridesmaid duty. Ensuring that all aspects of your makeup look are luminous guarantees a bright and youthful look that honors the occasion.
Sophisticated Beauty
Here, feathered lashes and bold brows offer a flattering frame to classic matte lips on Kendall Jenner.
Pink Noir
If all of this softness isn’t exactly your thing, a rim of black kohl along the waterline adds a noir note subtle enough to pass the bridal vibe check. For proof, look no further than Lily-Rose Depp.
No-Makeup Makeup
Going entirely bare-faced likely isn’t on the table (or could be a mandate, depending on the bride in question), but a nearly-naked gaze like Margaret Qualley's can offer the same fresh effect.
Boyfriend Blush
Finally, the could-be natural flush dubbed boyfriend blush by the social masses makes for a wedding-ready look, whether worn with a full-face or a simple glossed lip like Billie Eilish's.
