One user even noticed a more "youthful glow."

Even the most casual of skincare-users will have heard of vitamin C. The ingredient abounds—often in serums boasting some variation of brightening, tone-evening benefits. Among the formulas that truly delivers on these claims? Mad Hippie’s $40 Vitamin C Serum.

More than 2,000 people have purchased the serum at Amazon in the past month alone. Curious as to why, I studied its ingredient list and sifted through shopper acclaim—and, ultimately, added it to my own virtual shopping cart.

The Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum is a brightening, tone-evening complexion perfector powered by its titular ingredient. Vitamin C brightens hyperpigmentation—including sunspots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and general unevenness. Additionally, the formula firms crepey skin and imparts a megawatt glow.

Despite its benefits, vitamin C is notoriously unstable. (In the presence of light and air, for instance, it’s prone to degrading.) Mad Hippie’s serum, however, contains a form of vitamin C known for its superior stability; specifically, sodium ascorbyl phosphate. Furthermore, this form is gentler than pure vitamin C, making it a win for sensitive skin types.

On a separate note, sodium ascorbyl phosphate spurs the production of collagen—skin’s structural protein that depletes with age. By replenishing collagen, the ingredient improves skin firmness and laxity over time; plus, it diminishes fine lines.

Vitamin E, an antioxidant found in Mad Hippie’s serum, provides protection from skin-aging environmental factors. So, too, does ferulic acid, yet another free radical-fighter. Furthermore, ferulic acid helps stabilize vitamin C, while boosting the effectiveness of both vitamins C and E.

Finally, hyaluronic acid—the hydrating superhero of the skin care world—is present in Mad Hippie’s formula. The ingredient floods skin with moisture—and, in turn, plumps fine lines within minutes.

Per shoppers, the serum’s brightening, hyperpigmentation-fading benefits appear almost as quickly. For instance, one reviewer reported visible “improvements” after “less than a week,” citing a reduction in “age spots” and an increase in overall brightness. Another shopper, who had used the formula for three weeks, dubbed it a “magic serum,” calling it a skin “brightener and tightener.” Similarly, a fan who had lost their “youthful glow,” said the serum worked “quickly”—within a week—to impart “smoother” and “brighter” skin. Furthermore, the shopper saw a significant reduction in hyperpigmentation, and has since stopped using concealer to cover their dark spots.
