“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving."
After revealing that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer back in 2019, Shannen Doherty gave an update in a new interview, saying that the cancer has now spread to her bones. The news comes just months after another update she shared, saying the cancer had metastasized to her brain.
“I don’t want to die,” she told People. “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not — I’m not done.”
Doherty, who has been open with her health and every development concerning her cancer, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Two years later, she was in remission. However, in February 2020, the actress shared that the cancer returned in 2019 and was categorized as stage 4.
"When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?' and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?'" she said. "That leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life."
During the summer of 2023, Doherty shared a video of one of her surgeries on Instagram. The procedure was to remove a brain tumor.
"It was definitely one of the scariest things I've ever been through in my entire life," she said in the clip.
Doherty wants fans to know that she hasn't given up and is still hoping to work as she continues to deal with her diagnosis.
"My greatest memory is yet to come," she shared in today's People interview. "I pray. I wake up and go to bed thanking God, praying for the things that matter to me without asking for too much. It connects me to a higher power and spirituality. My faith is my mantra."
"I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you're just more aware of everything, and you feel so blessed," she finished. "We're the people who want to work the most, because we're just so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here."
