Forget Brat summer, because it’s the season of dopamine dressing, according to style vanguard Blake Lively. Ahead of the release of her movie It Ends With Us, the actress has been experimenting with a flurry of increasingly vibrant, floral outfits featuring a hint of camp—and she started out the week in yet another divisive outfit. On Monday night,L ively headed out on the town in a pair of leather-and-denim chaps that looked like they belonged at a rodeo.
In a sartorial 180 from her press circuit looks, the actress-turned-entrepreneur put her California girl spin on last summer’s disco cowgirl trend. As she headed out for the evening in New York City with her It Ends With Us co-star Brandon Sklenar, Lively modeled a pair of high-waisted jeans that were a chaps hybrid, thanks to the black leather material and delicate embroidery that extended a few inches from her waist all the way to the floor. A sexy black leather buckle ran across her midriff and accentuated a subtle floral detail that paid homage to her on-screen character, Lily Bloom. Swirls of gold embroidery made it look like there were mini bouquets of flowers adorning the top part of the chaps.
Lively stayed with the leather memo for the rest of her outfit, adding a rust-colored wet leather tank top with barely-there straps and a pair of strappy black sandal heels. A stack of brown and enamel bangles adorned the Gossip Girl alum’s right wrist, and she wore her signature voluminous blonde blowout slightly tucked behind her ears to show off a pair of dangly gold drop earrings.
Lively’s minimal beauty beat accentuated her features, thanks to a smoky maroon eyeliner, nude lipstick, and a natural bronzed glow. Later, the star added a brown cardigan that she wore draped around her elbows.
Lively’s latest take on the cowgirl aesthetic wasn’t her only head-turning look that day. Earlier, the star went topless under a plunging black oversized blazer that she wore completely open. The jacket, which was embellished with colorful floral appliques along the front, were paired with matching high-waisted shorts and a pair of iridescent blue metallic sandal heels.
