Others say it helped with “severe hair loss.”
Friends, family, and strangers alike are always asking me for advice on how to get their hair to grow long and strong. Much of the time they are looking for an oil or leave-in treatment, though one of the best methods of success is (IMO) starting from the ground up by reevaluating their shampoo. As innocuous as a step as it may seem, switching to something like Redken’s Extreme Length Shampoo can make a drastic difference.
There are four products in the Redken Extreme Length line—a shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, and treatment mask. They all seem worth a gander but if you’re going to walk away with just one, the shampoo has the most (5,700-plus) five-star ratings.

The main objective of this Redken shampoo, as stated by its name, is to promote hair growth. This is, per thousands of shoppers, achieved through the hero ingredients salicylic acid, citric acid, and biotin. Salicylic acid and citric acid are chemical exfoliants in the beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) and alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) families. The words chemical exfoliant may sound frightening in regards to your hair, but they have a plethora of benefits such as increased circulation in the scalp, sloughing away product buildup, and oil reduction. All three benefits are important factors in facilitating hair growth and improving the strength, texture, and overall health of strands. As for biotin, the jury is out on its purported benefits but at the very least it won’t hurt.
One shopper said their hair “grew eight inches” after a year of using Redken’s Extreme Length Shampoo. And they’re not alone in this, half a dozen other shoppers saw “inches” of growth, too. Someone who experiences “severe hair loss” as a result of a medical condition called this “pricey but worth every penny.” Every time they brushed their hair they lost “gobs of it,” but after the Redken shampoo they only saw “maybe six strands fall out.”
Head to Amazon to shop growth-promoting Redken’s Extreme Length Shampoo. If you want to double (or triple) down on the benefits, consider the rest of the Extreme Length line, too.
