It's also Elle Woods-approved!
Just a few weeks ago, Reese Witherspoon surprised the world by announcing an Elle Woods comeback in the Amazon Prime prequel, Elle. So it should come as no shock that her method dressing era is starting out strong.
The actress was spotted wearing a pink-and-black outfit reminiscent of her Legally Blonde character, which she first played in 2001. Witherspoon channeled the law school, pink-obsessed student in a black spaghetti strap top and matching A-line skirt outfit with pops of bright pink. Those came in the form of an over-the-shoulder sweater and pink-and-black pump slingback flats.
While the slingback pump flat is a classic fashion staple, this year, it’s a top summer trend. Thanks to the runways’ focus on corporate-ready styles and somewhat conservative dressing, polished cap-toe slingbacks have gathered momentum with celebrities like Katie Holmes also endorsing the trend.

It's natural to look at this trend and think it's a tad traditional for a modern-day look. But Witherspoon's take is a good way to update the classic staple into cool-girl version. As her look illustrates, it's better to go for more relaxed, off-duty pieces of clothing, whether that's a T-shirt, a crewneck sweater, or even jeans, to balance the already-elevated style of the slingback flats.
If Witherspoon’s look is any indication, the cap-toe slingback trend is not slowing down any time soon. Ahead, some options to get on it before summer’s over.
