Tousled Updo
“A messy bun is another effortlessly chic way to keep hair out of the way,” says Fitzsimons. “Plus, it can be dressed up or down for a flawless transition from day to night looks.” To get the look, gather and hair position where you want the bun to lay. Twist the ponytail, pull it apart, and secure it with bobby pins, finishing with a texturizing spray.
Half Up Half Down Ponytail
Take a note from Khloe Kardashian and rock a high pony. Fitzsimons shares that the look is “simple and keeps hair away from the face and neck in hot climates.” Divide and separate the top half from the bottom half of the hair. “Hold gathered hair in place with one hand while using the other hand to twist or braid it lightly,” Fitzsimons says. “To add volume, gently tease the roots of the top section with a comb or teasing brush.”
Bantu Knot Braids
Spice up your braids by twisting them into bantu knots, a la Willow Smith. Get the look by parting your braids into sections and twisting them into knot. “These can be secured with a rubber band or hair pin,” hairstylist Dayonna Worrell says.
'90s Updo
You can never run from this classic ’90s hairstyle. Celebrity hairstylist Camille Friend recommends blow-drying the hair straight to create a smooth base and using a flat iron “to style the hair into a smooth, sleek updo.”
Bohemian Braids
Marsai Martin shows how much fun you can have with bohemian braids. To get that goddess effect, weave in lots of loose, wavy strands.
Finger Waves
All you need is an all-purpose comb, foam mousse or gel, and water to get this look. “Use your fingers and the comb to create a C-shaped pattern row by row to give the effect of waves throughout the head," says Worrell.
Tousled Top-Knot
“A tousled top knot is a great way to take advantage of long hair's length, keeping the hair off of the neck while looking effortless,” says Fitzsimons. Start by detangling hair with a leave-in conditioner. Flip your head upside down and gather your hair into a ponytail.
Sleek High Ponytail
Kim Kardashian is known for her classic slicked-back looks. For styling, section your into two sections from ear to ear, separating the front from the back. Tie the front hair out of the way and then create a ponytail with the remaining hair from behind your ears. Then add the hair from the front half of your head and secure with an additional band.
Ocean Beach Waves
Embrace beach vibes and go for a damp look. Start with slightly damp hair, a texturizing spray, and divide into sections. Then, braid or twist the hair and secure using hair ties or bobby pins. Fitzsimons recommends unraveling and using a wide tooth comb to break up the waves for a more natural look, finishing with a hairspray to hold in place.
California Waves
For those who want to mimic Simone Ashley’s loose beach waves, and movement to your strands with a curling or flat iron. For style longevity, Fitzsimons recommends prepping your hair with moisture-rich styling products that“fill the hair cuticle with moisture so the humidity can’t take over your hair.”
Mini Braided Locks
Two mini braids instantly add care-free vibes to any style. Separate the hair into three even sections and hold the right section in your right hand while your left hand holds the left section. To braid, grab the right section and pull it over the middle section. “Repeat this with the left and middle strands, crossing it over the middle,” says Fitzsimons. “Until you reach the end, secure with an elastic.”
Slick-Back Moment
Maybe you want a very structured sleek bun like Emma Kenney. Celebrity hairstylist Graham Nation says to blow-dry or flat iron your hair and then apply hairspray at your roots. Use a bristle brush to smooth hair all into a bun.
Heatless Curls
Nation shares that you can braid your hair into four large braids when hair is damp. Then, let it air dry and remove the braids. Hairstylist Yvey Valcin also notes you can use a loose hold styling product to hold the look, too.
Cornrows
For sleek cornrows, Fitzsimons suggests sectioning the hair into rows and braiding it close to the scalp in a sleek and uniform pattern. Start by dividing it into three parts to start a braid and continue braiding tightly and evenly until reaching the nape of the neck. Make sure to secure the ends with a small rubber band.
Hydro-Bob Cut
A wet look like Kaia Gerber's makes it for a dramatic look. To get this hydro-bob, roughly blow-dry hair with a generous amount of leave-in conditioner to achieve the wet gloss look.
