It’s the latest addition to my routine.

Growing hair to its longest, strongest state requires commitment to a repertoire of health-promoting products. In addition to serums, shampoos, and other treatments designed to spur new growth, it’s prudent to consider options that prevent existing hair from breaking and shedding—both of which disallow for maximum length.

I recently received an $11 fortifying treatment, the Perfect Serum from Mise en Scène. Per the brand, it’s Korea’s top-selling hair serum; after trying it myself and reading Amazon reviews, I understand why. Shoppers who’ve used the anti-breakage formula rave about its powers—which, in addition to breakage-prevention, include immediate frizz control and shine. Best of all, it’s only $11.

The Mise en Scène Perfect Serum is an ultra-lightweight hair oil with myriad benefits: It smooths frizz, softens rough strands, and adds shine, but moreover, it promotes longer, stronger hair thanks to its breakage-control benefits. By preventing premature snapping and reducing split-end formation, the serum strengthens—and thus, ultimately lengthens—hair over time.

The formula relies on a blend of nutritive oils. Key among them is argan oil, which board-certified trichologist Helen Reavey previously told InStyle is  “rich…in beneficial nutrients, including fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins.” While studies are inconclusive as to whether argan oil directly spurs new hair growth, Reavey said it creates a “healthier environment for hair follicles to thrive,” which can “indirectly” support growth.

Jojoba oil is also present in the hair serum. Lauded for its lightweight feel, the ingredient delivers “hydration without leaving a greasy residue,” celebrity hairstylist Camille Friend previously told InStyle. “Plus, it’s rich in vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin E and B-complex,” she added, “which nourish and strengthen the hair.”

Finally, the serum contains coconut oil, which has long been hailed for its fortifying properties. As celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims previously told InStyle, the ingredient can “heal breakage,” which, in addition to optimizing hair’s growth potential, adds a healthy shine to frazzled, lackluster ends.

I’d be remiss to skip over the serum’s scent, which is reminiscent of a luxury salon. In fact, my boyfriend complimented my “amazing-smelling” hair moments after I applied the product.

It’s a breeze to use, too: The brand recommends applying up to two pumps of the product onto damp ends prior to blow drying. I’ve yet to experiment with this method, though I can attest to the serum’s excellence for smoothing crispy, second-day strands. I audibly gasped after smoothing the serum into my rough, straggly ponytail, which looked shinier than it has in months.

I’m hardly alone in my love for the Mise en Scène hair serum: A 63-year old shopper with color-induced damage said it “transformed” their hair and reversed it to its original “super-soft, shiny” state. Plus, they said, there’s “no greasy residue” or hair limpness post-use.

For a strand-strengthening solution that thwarts breakage and excess hair fall, snag Korea’s popular Mise en Scène Perfect Serum. I’m eager to continue using the product and even more excited to see how it strengthens my weakened, frizzy hair over time. Shop similar growth-promoting, strand-smoothing products at Amazon, below.
