Including an editor-loved skin tint.

A light, no-fuss makeup routine is, IMO, one of summer’s greatest joys, and this year, I’ve gotten it down to its simplest but most effective form: just five lightweight staples to enhance my natural skin and give it a sun-kissed glow. But I didn’t register just how simple my new lineup was until I started packing for my upcoming vacation and realized that my entire routine can fit in one small toiletry bag.

I had a few skin tints in my rotation, but after grabbing Chanel’s Les Beiges Water-Fresh skin tint, I’ve stopped reaching for any other. This is famous among InStyle’s beauty editors, whose claims that the hydrating tint makes you look like you just got a facial convinced me to splurge; of course, they were right. Two pumps of the water-based formula cover my entire face, calming my redness while allowing my summer freckles to shine through. I love the glow it leaves and how, even hours later, my dry skin still feels hydrated. Plus, it’s so lightweight that even on the hottest days, it stays put.

Tarte Creaseless Creamy Concealer

I know I’m late to the Tarte concealer train, but with the brand’s new Creaseless Creamy Concealer, I’m officially on board. This full-coverage concealer lives up to its name; it doesn’t cake or crease, in part thanks to its skincare-packed formula that includes niacinamide, bakuchiol, and caffeine. While I swear by this for concealing under-eye darkness and blemishes, InStyle’s senior beauty writer noted that she’s even used it in place of foundation because of its highly pigmented, skin-like finish. You can even use your fingers to blend it.

Saie’s liquid blush is my forever favorite; it’s buildable, never looks cakey, and can be applied with your fingers. This summer, I’ve been reaching for it in the shade “Cutie” to give my cheeks a rosy flush. The color—terracotta with a bit more red—gives a kind of sunburnt appearance, making me look like I just spent the day at the beach. As someone who applies sunscreen religiously, I love that this can help me fake a sun-kissed glow.

Glossier Lash Slick Mascara

I’ve tried so many mascaras from drugstore to designer, but Glossier’s Lash Slick is the one I always come back to. To my amazement, the wand coats each lash from the root to the tip, creating length and volume without clumping. The finished look is an enhanced but still natural-looking lash line, making it perfect for everyday wear. And while I’ve been known to sweat some mascaras off in the summer, this one lasts all day.

Nivea Lip Care Tinted Lip Balm

I have drawers full of lipsticks, oils, and glosses, but the cherry lip balm from Nivea—an impulse purchase I made while picking up a prescription from Walgreens—is the only one I’ve been using this summer. This drugstore lip balm nourishes my lips with shea butter, jojoba, and avocado oil while leaving a sheer wash of red; it’s the perfect amount of pigment for everyday wear. And while cherry is my go-to, this pack includes three other shades: a warm red, pink, and dark merlot.
