They made their first red carpet appearance in almost two years.
It’s easy to forget that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. were one of the most iconic couples in the early 2000s since stepping back from the spotlight once they got married and had kids. But now with their children all grown up (their daughter Charlotte is 14 years old, and their son Rocky James is 11), Gellar and Prinze Jr. are getting back into groove, starting with their first joint red carpet appearance in almost two years.
On Wednesday, the parents of two had date night at the Los Angeles premiere of Prinze's new movie, The Girl in the Pool. For the occasion, Gellar wore a white lace minidress that featured a sheer bodice, a voluminous tulle skirt that flared out from the sides, and a silk black bow that punctuated her dress's high neckline. Juxtaposing the light color of her dress, the actress accessorized with a tiny black handbag and black pointed-toe heels. Meanwhile, a pair of diamond stud earrings and a smattering of sparkly rings provided the finishing touches to her red carpet look.
For his part, Prinze Jr. opted to go the casual route in a pair of black jeans paired with a black bomber jacket and a pink T-shirt underneath.
Gellar and Prinze Jr.’s love story first began on the set of the teen slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997. However, it wasn’t until a few years later that an accidental date turned into a long-lasting marriage. “We were friends for a very long time. We’d had many dinners before. And we were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person didn’t make it out and we decided to still go,” the Buffy star recalled to People Now in 2020.
"We were just two people at dinner catching up," she added. "We had a long car ride and a long dinner and things just happened."
Prinze Jr. said after his first date with Gellar, he "didn't go on dates with other girls, nor did I even want to pursue dates with other girls." The couple eventually tied the knot in Mexico in 2002 and welcomed two children together, a daughter named Charlotte Grace in 2009 and a son, Rocky James, three years later.
