She's no ordinary girl.
Miley Cyrus isn’t just living the best of both worlds, she is now living the life of a legend. The Hannah Montana alum made history as the youngest person to be named a Disney Legend at 31 years old. And as seasoned icons do, she dressed like a complete winner.
The “Flowers” singer ascended the stage to accept her award in a classic black power suit that had a plunging neckline and an unexpected ’80s detail: dramatic statement shoulder pads. Cyrus wore nothing underneath the long, low-cut tailored blazer and opted for bootcut dress pants and leather pointed-toe stiletto boots on the bottom. She accessorized the set with a shiny silver cuff bracelet that coiled up her right arm, as well as a smattering of silver rings.
For glam, Cyrus went the dewy route with sun-kissed bronzer, a glossy lip, and fluttery eyelashes. She also debuted a new hairdo, seemingly nodding to both her Miley Stewart and Hannah Montana personas: chunky blonde highlights.
Lainey Wilson, who took to the stage to perform a rendition of "The Best of Both Worlds," introduced The Last Song actress at the D23 ceremony on Aug. 11 in Anaheim, California.
“I’m gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know. And what I want to say, is that legends get scared, too," Cyrus said in her emotional acceptance speech. "I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day. It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try,” she continued, wiping away tears.
The Disney Legend title is bestowed onto individuals who have made significant contributions to the company; past honorees include Christina Aguilera, Oprah Winfrey, Betty White, and Stan Lee. Cyrus starred in the 2006 Disney sitcom Hannah Montana at 13 years old until the show’s conclusion in 2011. She also went on to voice Penny in the Disney animated movie Bolt.
“I stand here still proud to have been ‘Hannah Montana,'” Cyrus continued. “This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.'”
