It's my go-to comfy airport outfit for summer travel.
I used to head to the airport in oversized sweatpants, a fuzzy hoodie, and comfy sneakers and call it a day. While there’s still a time and place for such travel outfits (like 5 a.m. boarding calls, bleh), I now like to spruce up my ensembles—and Katie Holmes just wore one of my go-to flying ‘fits.
Spotted in New York, Holmes wore a black trench coat, V-neck T-shirt, high-waisted trousers, and super strappy Mary Jane flats. She clung onto a square-shaped bag and accessorized with a dangling gold necklace.

I know what you’re thinking: “You wear that to the airport?” Hear me out. The actress’s anti-jeans pants are surprisingly comfortable, offering an almost pajama-like feel. The wide-leg gives you a spacious fit (a.k.a, all the wiggle room you need while sitting on those uncomfy airplane seats), and an elastic waistband leaves you with space to breathe without feeling restricted—a must seeing as flying can already make you feel, well, restricted.
Kendall Jenner, Anne Hathaway, and Jennifer Lawrence know what I mean; the celebrities constantly reach for the easy bottoms, whether they’re lounging around the hotel or appearing on late-night television. An added bonus? Trousers are perfect for the season thanks to the breezy, lightweight material often used.
Holmes rounded out the look with Mary Janes that are practical and versatile. Not only are they the Hollywood ‘It’ shoes of 2024 (and 2023, TBH), but they’re easy to walk in thanks to the flat sole and secure double-strap design. I’ve worn a similar style when running blocks in the rain, and the Mary Janes stayed put, never causing me to slip, stumble, or slide. Best of all, you can easily slip Mary Janes on and off and wear them with or without socks—they’re super customizable and can look so different depending on how you style them.
Holmes combined two of 2024’s biggest trends into one look—and now you have an ideal summer travel outfit. That said, it’s perfect for brunch, coffee dates, the office, and beyond, too.
