They’re the most versatile heel you'll own.
If we’re talking “cool girl” style, there’s one name that can’t be missing from the conversation: Rashida Jones. For years, her signature look has been something along the lines of formal-meets-casual, playing with proportion and structure while pairing serious things like oversized trousers and blazers with everyday staples (think: sneakers) for looks that feel effortlessly chic. And this week, she wore an outfit that convinced me she’s not just a cool girl, but the ultimate one.
When the actress arrived at CBS Mornings in New York City, she wore a two-piece set in butter yellow—this year’s hottest color—that balanced sophistication with romance. Her short-sleeve blouse had a stiff collar, slim fit, and was buttoned to the very top—it meant business. Her skirt, however, was a little more relaxed. The piece sat high on her waist and had draping and layers that gave the once-boring pencil skirt a tulip-like shape. Pairing masculine with feminine, Jones created a look I immediately wanted to add to my closet.
And while the set alone is covet-worthy, I’m definitely not overlooking what she paired it with. Her shoes, a heeled sandal with the thinnest straps, added much-needed sexiness to the outfit. The black shoes had a small heel and even smaller straps that secured over her foot and around her ankle; compared to the volume of her skirt, the heels felt dainty.

At its core, a sandal is pretty casual—yes, even leather styles and ones finished with metal details. But by adding a heel, the shoe instantly becomes more dressed up without becoming too dressy; it’s a duality that allows the shoe to look just as good with a full-length dress as it does with wide-leg jeans. Like Jones’ signature style, heeled sandals find the perfect balance between everyday and special occasion, making them the most wearable shoes in your closet.
Strappy heeled sandals might be the most reached-for style in Hollywood right now, with everyone from Elle Fanning to Dakota Johnson wearing the shoe. And after seeing Jones in them, I’m now convinced they’re this summer’s cool-girl staple. Shop more styles inspired by the actress, below.
