The actress revealed the news in an episode of 'Tia Mowry: My Next Act.'
It’s only been one month since Tia Mowry debuted her new TV show, Tia Mowry: My Next Act, and the series is already proving to be an honest reflection of real life. Case in point? Mowry’s health scare in episode four, during which she learns that her routine mammogram came back with abnormal results. Mowry, understandably, was shocked by the news, and broke down in tears on camera.
“I feel like right when I’m working on my mental health because of what I’m going through, now this. Another situation,” Mowry said, crying. “This is my health.”
Mowry later revealed that both her grandmother and her aunt passed away from cancer, adding to her fears for her own health. As for next steps, she'll have to schedule a biopsy to get "some further insight," according to the doctor.
“I have been doing so much to take care of my mental health,” the Sister, Sister actress continued later on in a confessional. “I’ve been meditating, I’ve been journaling, but I’m scared. I don’t know what to expect.”
Mowry’s announcement comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which Skims marked with a new campaign featuring breast cancer survivor Olivia Munn.
It has been a difficult year for Mowry, who is coming up on one year since she finalized her divorce from her husband of 14 years, Cory Hardrict. She also recently shared that she’s no longer close with her twin sister, Tamera.
"Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce," Tia said in a promotional clip for her namesake show. "It's times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her. But that's just not where we are right now."
