Please also note the stirrup leggings.
Here at InStyle, Katie Holmes is the unofficial patron saint of what we like to call “regular, schmegular” fashion. After all, who can rock a pair of classic high-waisted jeans or traditional Mary Janes quite like her? But although Holmes may be known for her perfectly simple, effortlessly uncontroversial style, every now and then, she does push the sartorial boundaries and surprise us all with a look that is just a little more daring.
Just take her latest outfit. While out in New York City this week, where she is currently starring in a production of Our Town, the actress rocked a top that brought back one of Y2K's most disputed trends: the peplum waist. Her double-breasted blazer-style top by Salon 1884 featured a wide collared neckline, a fitted waist, and a bold peplum silhouette.
Although Holmes may be the poster girl for traditional, inoffensive fashions, she is also never afraid to experiment with the latest trends. This year, peplum has experienced a resurgence in popularity—and Holmes has evidently embraced the trend.
Holmes resurrected yet another Y2K trend with her choice of pants, wearing black leggings with a stirrup heel along with a pair of black peep-toe heels that only revealed only her big toe. She carried the Manu Atelier Le Cambon 35 Vanilla handbag, which she also carried just one day earlier while rocking a classic wool coat and a pair of Gen Z-approved Air Force 1 sneakers. She also accessorized with a delicate gold necklace and a pair of oversized brown gradient sunglasses. She wore her hair in loose curls and swept to one side.
This is just the latest look that suggests that Holmes is ready to leave behind her normcore fashion reputation. Last month, she was spotted in a pair of daring patchwork jeans, while just last week, she broke several fashion rules when she paired a silk slip skirt with a collared button-up and a pair of loafers.
