She "could smell him from a mile" away while filming 'Fools Gold.'
Finally! An answer to a decades-old question we've all been dying to know the answer to: What does Matthew McConaughey smell like? Well, Kate Hudson is letting us in on a little secret (or more like lack thereof) that we've all been waiting for: He doesn't wear deodorant—and his musk is, well, pretty pungent.
During an appearance of Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen, Hudson answered a question about the “old urban legend” that she allegedly “forced Matthew McConaughey to wear deodorant while filming Fool’s Gold.”
"No!" replied Hudson, wrinkling her nose. But then she clarified, "He doesn't wear deodorant. And, by the way, I don't either."
She went on, "No, my thing was that I could smell him from, you know, a mile, because we got so close! We're au naturale." In other words, she knew him so well, she could sniff him out anywhere. Now someone will have to ask McConaughey if he knows Hudson's scent by heart, too.
Hudson and McConaughey have had plenty of time to learn each other’s natural aromas—after all, they had previously co-starred in the iconic rom-com How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days five years earlier in 2003.
Elsewhere in her interview with Cohen, Hudson addressed the rumors about her brief relationship with Nick Jonas. “A moment? A moment,” she said of their short-lived fling. “Lovely, fun, kind…he’s like an old man in a young man’s body, and we love him.”
This seems to be the first time Hudson has confessed to her no-deodorant routine—but knowing the actress’s love for simplicity, it’s hardly surprising. In fact, in 2022, she told Allure that she only uses water to cleanse her face in the morning.
However, although she skips the deodorant, she isn't afraid to spritz on a little perfume to enhance her natural musk. "I'm just a sucker for orange blossom," she said to the publication. "I love it, I love it, I love it. And I also really love any kind of sandalwood with some other notes, something a little bit more bohemian."
