The menswear-inspired 'fit looks like something Andy Sachs would wear.
It might as well be 2006 all over again because Anne Hathaway’s latest outfit looks like it’s straight from The Devil Wears Prada archives. As the buzz continues to build for her and co-star Nicholas Galitzine’s highly-anticipated steamy rom-com, The Idea of You, the Princess Diaries alum stepped out for a Q&A and screening at 92NY on Sunday, April 28, wearing a preppy black leather suit that would get Miranda Priestley’s nod of approval. Wearing the same full fringe and tousled locks that she sported during her Andy Sachs days, Hathaway proudly rocked one of the Y2K era’s most divisive trends.
The Ocean’s 8 star’s Ralph Lauren suit featured three pieces made completely out of black leather. Hathaway’s structured suit jacket, which featured ‘80s-inspired padded shoulders, big pockets, and a long length that extended past her hips, was worn open to show off her white colored dress shirt and a black leather vest with buttons that looked like it was from the Y2K era.
Her outfit got the preppy treatment, thanks to her buttoned-up top and skinny black tie accent. The actress offset her jacket’s bulkier fit by pairing it with skinny black leather pants that bunched around her ankles and a pair of patent leather pointed-toe heels from Jimmy Choo. She also took cues from Runway magazine’s fictional editor-in-chief by accessorizing with a pair of very Miranda Priestley-esque oversized black sunglasses.
While the Becoming Jane actress’s sartorial expertise is nothing new, her outfits have gotten renewed attention ahead of The Idea of You’s release on May 2. The movie follows Hathaway’s character, a 40-year-old single mom named Solène, as she falls for and begins a romance with the 24-year-old lead singer of a popular boy band. With the movie coming out on Amazon Prime so soon, Hathaway fans can rest assured the star will be serving up more fashion wins – and perhaps some more nods to her Devil Wears Prada character – in the coming days.
