The high-neck maxi dress is from her own fashion label, Atelier Jolie.
From trench coats and blazers to pointed-toe pumps and oversized totes, Angelina Jolie’s wardrobe is filled to the brim with stealthy-chic basics that never go out of style. And yesterday, at the 81st Venice Film Festival, she pulled out yet another classic from her closet but with a surprisingly bold twist.
At the photocall for her new film Maria, Jolie wore a black high-neck column gown from her own fashion label, Atelier Jolie. The dress was both backless and sleeveless, showing off her impressive collection of more than tattoos that include the Buddhist blessings for peace, love, and a prosperous life written in yantra style on her back.
In addition to her intricate inkings, the actress accessorized her LBD with a gold Cartier Panthère brooch that once belonged to opera singer Maria Callas, who Jolie portrays in the Pablo Larraín-directed biopic. “You can imagine how special it was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers,” Jolie told Vogue about the brooch a press conference for the film. She finished off her look with black sunglasses, a glossy lip, and a bouncy blowout with a sweeping side part.
While Jolie’s Venice outfits may be evocative of Callas’s Old Hollywood style, she was careful not to completely replicate the opera star’s iconic looks.
“I chose not to copy [Maria’s] looks because they are hers, and her Venice carpets were stunning, so I gave a little nod to her—in a different way,” she explained to Vogue, adding: “But I made sure to wear something ladylike in her honor.”
