There’s an episode of a gone-too-soon British show called The It Crowd where one of the main characters cannot perform or focus adequately at work because of the immense pain and discomfort of her bra. I have had that experience with 85 percent of the bras I’ve tried on my heaving 38DD bosom.

This is the most important bra currently in my rotation. I was so impressed with the comfort, support, and chic style that in the first month I owned it, I only took it off to sleep or launder. There are at least two panels of very thin fabric but otherwise no cushioning—ideal since I don’t want to add to the circumference of my chest. Despite having no lining, there’s still coverage, and I can wear this under a white T-shirt without anything nearing obscenity. It comes in five colors and in sizes 30C to 40H.

I prefer unlined bras, but I still need a couple of styles that offer structure and form for outfits that don’t have either. This one from B. Tempted by Wacoal is one of the best because it avoids the usual pitfalls of this style—it doesn’t pinch skin, it’s not heavy on the shoulders, and it doesn’t dig into your flesh. What it does do is keep things even-level and defy the earth’s gravitational pull. This bra comes in three colors and is available in sizes 32B to 38DDD.
