Michelle Obama doesn’t just show up to any old party—and when she does, you know she’s going to shut down the red carpet. On October 2, the former first lady made a surprise appearance at an Audible and Higher Ground event to celebrate the new podcast, “The Wonder Of Stevie,” which explores the achievements of Stevie Wonder. Obama, who appeared on the podcast, wore an ultra-feminine take on menswear to Wednesday’s soirée.
The super chic paisley-and-floral suit featured a double-breasted silhouette with bedazzled silver buttons, a matching sheer blouse, and coordinating skinny trousers that she tucked into over-the-knee black boots. She styled the co-ord set with statement-making accessories, including sculptural silver earrings and an array of chunky rings. Her hair was worn in braids that were fastened into a low bun, save for a few face-framing pieces. In terms of glam, the activist opted for fringed lashes and a glossy lip.
During the evening's festivities, Obama posed alongside musician and producer Questlove and actress and singer Janelle Monáe, who also offered up their interpretation of the tailoring trend in a tuxedo.
Obama commemorated the night with an Instagram Story the next day that read, "About last night…Loved getting to celebrate the extraordinary Stevie Wonder and our new @highergroundmedia podcast with @audible, 'The Wonder of Stevie.'"
Michelle’s appearance came just hours before her and husband Barack Obama’s 32nd wedding anniversary. Though neither have posted to social media just yet, the power couple has a habit of sharing the sweetest tributes on Instagram.
For their 30th anniversary, Michelle gushed over her husband, writing, "Happy anniversary to the man I love! These last 30 years have been an adventure, and I'm grateful to have you by my side. Here's to a lifetime together. I love you."
