"I am trying to survive."

Kate Beckinsale is opening up about her recent health scare after being criticized for her “thin” appearance. On Saturday, the actress, who was hospitalized for a mystery illness earlier this year, got candid about the issues that contributed to her weight loss in response to body-shamers on Instagram.

In a now-deleted post, Beckinsale shared a video reel of her dancing to All Saints’s “Never Ever” while wearing a black leather dress on the set of her upcoming film Stolen Girl. “Sorry to say this Kate, but you do look a bit thin … You always striked a great balance … But when your cheekbones start to show, the balance is lost … 😢 😢,” one user commented on the clip, per Us Weekly

Beckinsale didn't take the critic's words lightly and listed off a number of reasons as to why she hasn't looked like herself lately. “I nursed my stepdad dad to his death early this year. My mum also has stuff going on. I am adjusting to watching two fathers die, one when I was 5, one in January of this year.” (Kate’s father, Richard Beckinsale, died when she was a child, while her stepfather, Roy Battersby, passed away in January.)

She continued, “I lost my soulmate cat of almost 19 years, also last year. I spent six weeks in hospital due to copiously vomiting blood from a Mallory Weiss year [sic] caused by the stress of a whole year ripping a hole between my oesophagus [sic] and stomach.”
