"I am trying to survive."

Kate Beckinsale is opening up about her recent health scare after being criticized for her “thin” appearance. On Saturday, the actress, who was hospitalized for a mystery illness earlier this year, got candid about the issues that contributed to her weight loss in response to body-shamers on Instagram.

In a now-deleted post, Beckinsale shared a video reel of her dancing to All Saints’s “Never Ever” while wearing a black leather dress on the set of her upcoming film Stolen Girl. “Sorry to say this Kate, but you do look a bit thin … You always striked a great balance … But when your cheekbones start to show, the balance is lost … 😢 😢,” one user commented on the clip, per Us Weekly

Beckinsale didn't take the critic's words lightly and listed off a number of reasons as to why she hasn't looked like herself lately. “I nursed my stepdad dad to his death early this year. My mum also has stuff going on. I am adjusting to watching two fathers die, one when I was 5, one in January of this year.” (Kate’s father, Richard Beckinsale, died when she was a child, while her stepfather, Roy Battersby, passed away in January.)

She continued, “I lost my soulmate cat of almost 19 years, also last year. I spent six weeks in hospital due to copiously vomiting blood from a Mallory Weiss year [sic] caused by the stress of a whole year ripping a hole between my oesophagus [sic] and stomach.”

Revealing that she's just "trying to survive," the Serendipity star spoke up on behalf of other women who are bullied over their appearance. “The fact you fancy girls who are heavier than I am does not feature in things that are important or relevant," she wrote. "The fact you feel your opinion is required to bully females about their appearance is relevant to me because it needs to stop feeling like it is your, or anyone’s right. I don’t care what your taste in women is. I care that you think any of us need to be apprised of it.”

Beckinsale concluded that she "will not address" her appearance again and urged her followers to "do better."

Back in March, Beckinsale first sparked concern over her health after sharing several tearful selfies from a hospital bed. And while she hasn’t directly addressed the reason for her stay, she did shut down rumors that it was due to plastic surgery.

“Whatever someone looks like, accusing them constantly of things they haven’t done, or being obsessed with youth when actually, currently I’m obsessed with surviving loss, is bullying,” she told her critics, adding: “Please stop now.”
