“I’ve had some really dark times on tour."

Billie Eilish has often taken an open-book approach when it comes to interviews—never shying away from even the most taboo of topics (such as her self-pleasure habits). In her new cover story for Vogue, she opened up about experiencing chronic pain from being hypermobile, an issue that has plagued her since she was nine years old.

“Growing up, I’d always hear people be like, ‘Just wait until you’re older! You’re going to have so much pain!’ And I remember being so furious," she told the publication, adding that she feels like she has been at war with her body since adolescence.

The "Wildflower" hitmaker continued: “I’ve had some really dark times on tour. For a long time I was kind of living like it was temporary. Like, yeah, I’m touring for now and it’s kind of unpleasant, and whatever. It’ll be over. And the truth is, it’s the rest of my life.”

The 9-time Grammy award winner is often seen wearing kinesiology tape, an athletic tape used for reducing pain and discomfort, on her shins while performing, which can help with issues like shin splints. Eilish sometimes wears knee pads on stage, too, which may help protect her legs while she dances and jumps around during the show.

The Swarm star took some time to address another topic close to her chest: her sexuality. Despite her historical transparency on her love life, she said she regrets opening up about the matter.

“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” she explained, reportedly with frustration. “And I hope that they never will again. And I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”

Eilish revealed to Variety back in December that she is attracted to women, something she “didn’t realize” people weren’t already aware of.

"I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious’?,” she said at the time. “I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist’? I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops.”

The singer-songwriter previously opened up about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jesse Rutherford (the two parted ways in May 2023) during a video interview with Variety in 2022.

"Jesse Rutherford everyone. I pulled his ass. All me. I did that shit. I locked that motherfucker down," she said at the time.

Eilish's 2021 documentary Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry also shows glimpses of her relationship with ex-boyfriend Brandon Quintin Adams.
