When it comes to celebrity skin care advice, I prefer to get mine from someone at least a little bit older than me. While I appreciate the advice of the newer generations, it just doesn’t feel applicable to someone like me who is months shy of 30. But someone like Scarlett Johansson, who is 39 years old and has enviable plump, wrinkle-free, and radiant skin is a different story.
The actress’s editor-approved skin care brand The Outset is participating in Amazon’s October Prime Day (which ends tonight, BTW) with varying discounts on its seven hero products. I spoke with Johansson, who tells InStyle that if you walk away with one product, it should be the Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum—aka, her “holy grail” product.

Johansson calls the serum a “multitasker that firms, brightens, plumps, and hydrates skin.” Her accolades make sense once you go through the ingredient list: vegan collagen (it’s typically animal-derived), brassica napus seedcake, arnica, and the brand’s proprietary hyaluroset complex (a botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid). It’s a combination that has scientifically-backed wrinkle and fine line-reducing, anti-inflammatory, accelerated healing, and plumping properties.
A reviewer on The Outset’s website said the Vegan Collagen Prep Serum is “superior to anything [else]” they’ve ever tried in regards to “firming and hydrating.” Another shopper saw a “definite difference in… the tightness, fine lines, and wrinkles” of their skin. Some shoppers claim that their pores are less prominent, too. A 75-year-old shopper said, “this serum has made my skin look 10 years younger.”
The “prep” in the serum’s name has two meanings—it preps your skin for the rest of the products in your routine and Johansson says “it’s a great base for your makeup,” which shoppers attest to as well. One reviewer said this makes their makeup look “hydrated, dewy…and fresh-faced,” which ultimately leads to a more “youthful” finish. Plus, your makeup will “last all day,” according to another shopper.
