The sentimental gown belonged to her mom, Teri.
Brooke Shields brought out a vintage look for the New York City Ballet 2024 Fall Fashion Gala on October 9—and while some pieces have their fair share of history, Shields’s pearl-encrusted gown once had an audience with Queen Elizabeth. The gown previously belonged to Shield’s mother, Teri, and Brooke shared the fun detail when she arrived at the event.
In an Instagram video posted by photojournalist Mickey Blank, Brooke shared an anecdote about her one-of-a-kind look.
“My mother’s dress [from] when she met the queen,” Brooke said.
The A-line gown featured long, dramatic sleeves, an intricate pearl embellishment, and a modest high neck with bold square crystals. Shields finished off the look with a pair of white flats, coordinating long, dangling pearl earrings, and a metallic clutch. Of course, her signature bold brows were on display and she kept the rest of her makeup warm and minimal, with an emphasis on her long, fluttery lashes.
Teri passed away in 2012. At the time, Brooke shared a heartfelt message that touched on their complicated relationship, which was chronicled in the Hulu documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields. Teri started managing Brooke’s modeling and acting career when she was just 11 months old and later in life, she suffered from dementia.
“My mother was an enormous part of my life and of who I am today,” Brooke said at the time. “I loved her, laughed with her, and respected her. And although she had her share of struggles, she was my mom.”
Brooke opened up more recently about her daughters raiding her closet.
“It’s such an honor when they want to wear your stuff. Normally, they don’t think I’m cool,” Brooke said in a People cover story which mentioned that her daughter, Grier, remixed her mother’s 1991 wedding gown to wear to her high school graduation.
