The NFT craze has taken both the internet and crypto world by storm. Since making worldwide news in early 2021, artists and creatives of all types have taken their stab at creating pieces of work in hopes of cashing in, leaving an impact and even just learning about WTF this world is all about.

Austin tattoo artist Dillon Forte has taken things a step further, and while already an avid fan of crypto to begin with, has designed his own NFT and tattooed the piece on an excited client to wear forever.

Non-fungible token

NFT, which is short for Non-fungible token, is essentially a piece of data stored on the blockchain. That NFT, which can be varied forms of creative media, is certified to be unique and not able to be altered.  I know, you’re probably as confused as I am, but for those in the know they are excited to see how this NFT world evolves and takes a foothold for creatives long term. Forte created multiple NFT pieces and made them available via his ‘FORTErrestrial’ store on OpenSea, allowing users to purchase the unique art using cryptocurrency  (ETH).

For over a decade Forte has been known worldwide for his incredible sacred geometry, dot and blackwork tattooing. Along the way he has also inked quite a few household names (Usher, Chris Hemsworth etc) and has become a leader in the design aesthetic while earning a wait list that would rival popular NYC restaurants. With his venture into NFTs, he wanted to create pieces of art that would live forever and give those who are interested in his art a chance to own a piece of the pie. One customer in particular took that purchased piece of art and visited Forte to have it inked on his body, which is a major first for the industry to have the NFT both owned and inked by the same individual.

As the creator, Dillon Forte not only receives future royalties on the future purchases of this NFT piece, but also garners awareness for his store and his tattooing efforts overall. Forte explains “theoretically, this NFT could pay for itself and generate passive income on future sales on the original art. As the design enters the secondary market, the value could effectively increase over time.”

The tattoo, entitled “Hexagonal Matrix” is available on OpenSea along with other pieces of art for purchase. Learn more about Dillon Forte in his Instagram or check out the exclusive interview made to Tattoos Wizard.
