They even matched their hair to the color of their outfits.
The Le Défilé L’Oréal Paris runway was a hit—the fashion show, which took place on September 23 as part of Paris Fashion Week, saw Heidi Klum hit the catwalk in a slinky latex dress that recalled The Matrix, Eva Longoria in a dress that looked like a floating cloud, and Kendall Jenner channeling Marilyn Monroe in red. But the fashion wasn’t the only part of the show to make a statement—Andie MacDowell and Jane Fonda let the focus be on their hair color.
During the show, the actresses stepped out on the runway with their silver tressed on full display. Fonda had her chin length silver hair styled with ample volume, curls, and flipped-out ends. MacDowell, meanwhile, went for old Hollywood glamour wearing her sleek silver hair in a side-part and soft waves that framed her face and cascaded down her back.
The women also wore silver on the catwalk, too—Fonda wore a blinged out trench coat dress that cinched in at her waist. MacDowell opted for a traditional gown: a strapless dress with a corset-inspired bust that was covered in sequins.
MacDowell has openly discussed her decision to go gray, telling People in 2023, “I knew instinctually that this was something that I wanted to do. I’m just so thankful that L’Oréal Paris supported me and that everybody’s been so kind to me and positive. The response has been really nice. I’m just appreciative that people let me be the individual that I am without question. I think people also agree that silver hair probably suits me.”
The 66-year-old also revealed that going silver came as a result of the quarantine period of the pandemic—she felt empowered to embrace her natural color after her children praised it. “They kept telling me I looked badass with my gray hair. When I pulled it up in a bun, all you could see was the salt and pepper, which is what I am, you know, dark and silver. I like to compare myself to George Clooney because why not? I’ve been saying for a while now it was time for me, personally, to make that transition because I felt like it was appropriate for my personality and just who I am,” she told Vogue in 2021.
MacDowell even took inspiration from Fonda’s hairstylist. “During lockdown, I had a lot of downtime and became obsessed with Jack Martin, who did Jane Fonda’s hair. I shared those pictures with a lot of people going, ‘Hey, I want to do this,’” she added. “I got a job and very quickly I had to make up my mind about what I was going to do. My managers had actually said to me, “It’s not time.” And I said, “I think you’re wrong, and I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now. It’s time because in two years I’m going to be 65. If I don’t do it now, I won’t have the chance to be salt and pepper. I always wanted to be salt and pepper!'”
