Their kiss curls are sleek and stunning.
When Abbott Elementary co-stars Quinta Brunson and Sheryl Lee Ralph stepped onto the 2024 Emmy Awards red carpet, their looks had one key point in common—sleek kiss curls à la Josephine Baker.
Brunson is no stranger to this classic coiffure; it’s appeared in a few of her looks from hairstylist Alexander Armand over the years. But tonight’s style takes the style to the next level, with a trio of kiss curls cascading down her hairline.
"Quinta’s look tonight was inspired by her dress," Armand tells InStyle. "We felt that the hair needed to be sleek and chic with an edgy flair like her dress. We decided to do a deep side part to accentuate her face and highlight her cheekbones with the placement of the crescent moon swoops!"
To create Brunson’s swoops, Armand relied on the Maui Moisture Flexible Hold + Coconut Milk Curl Foam Mousse. For this super sculptural look, Armand says a moose was a far better choice than an edge control gel. “The benefits of using a curl mousse to create these swoops are that you’re able to mold the hair into the perfect shape and allow the hair to dry in place,” he says, “achieving a softer flexible hold that edge control wouldn’t provide.”
Ralph’s approach is much more subtle, featuring a single, slim swoop adding a touch of interest to a super-sleek high ponytail. Her look was created by hairstylist Sharif Poston.
Both stars, who are nominated for Abbott Elementary, looked positively stunning. Brunson is nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series while Ralph is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series.
